Favourite Five: witness the fitness

With world Health Day having just passed us on 7th April; we picked our top 5 gyms/fitness locations to get your pulse racing irrespective of personal fitness levels. The main thing is just to get involved, whether you commit to a class or your own tailored sessions take a look below to check out some of the hottest gym classes and spaces happening in London.

Gymbox
This is a gym with a difference, now with eight Gymboxs dotted around London offering a variety of classes aimed at getting you hot enough to break a sweat and dance on the rooftops. Take a quick glance at their class schedule and you will see classes such as Flatline – dubbed the hardest class in the world – Death Row, Contortion, Paddleboard Yoga, Trapeze, and Caveman. In addition, to the usual gym facilities, key feature are boxing rings, functional fitness rigs and wait for it resident DJs! After its inception in a car park in Holborn back in 2003 this is now definitely one of the hottest gyms spots around.

Frame
Take a visit to the original Frame location in Shoreditch and emblazoned on the outside is a mural with the words “Be bad until you’re good. And good until you’re great” Any gym which offers a sliding scale for fitness needs to be applauded so make your own choice as to where you want to be. Frame has a huge number of classes to get your teeth into and to get in to new gym gear for. Decide if you want to go to a ‘standard class’ or attend one of those with more quirky appeal such as Frame Rave, ‘80s Aerobics and Music Video. Plus a running club. Embrace positivity whilst getting and staying fit and you embody the philosophy behind Frame.

BLOK London
Should you be after a contemporary, trendy gym offering then BLOK is the space for you. Occupying a former warehouse, the boutique gym channels the vibe of a hip Berlin hangout joint. A class based gym, you pay as you go which is a great option for those who like to take a go with the flow approach to their gym sessions. Classes are varied and with options like BlokFit, boxing, HIIT or Animal Flow or if serious toning is your thing there are barre, yoga and pilates classes. Plus the gym has under the floor heating – sure summer is apparently approaching but you’re never going to say no to a heated floor.

Psycle
If your work-out soundtrack is almost as interesting to you as the gym class then Psycle maybe your perfect match. If you want to get your groove on in a bike filled basement then spin away at Psycle. Amongst dimmed lighting and laser flash you move weights and whirl your arms like you’re in the middle of the most en-point rave whilst cycling on and off the saddle. It is not all for the cycle lovers amongst you, there are also yoga sessions, high intensity barre, circuits and strength classes. Perhaps, it’s time to get your cycle on.

The Refinery
No kidding, just check out their website! A basement fitness studio is one of the coolest places to break a sweat in East London. Focus is on quirky yoga, pilates, barre and fitness class against a backdrop of welcoming vibes and incense. The studio even has a dog. What’s not to like, head along to Well Street and test out The Refinery for yourself. Form an orderly queue now.
